Spey Nation 2025 is quickly approaching! The Spey Nation event presented by Swing The Fly will again take place on the banks of the Salmon River, August 8th through the 10th, 2025.
The focus of Spey Nation remains on meaningful education and a casual gathering of Spey enthusiasts. As the three-day event continues to evolve, this year a full-day Spey School has been added to the schedule for Friday August 8th (we only have ONE spot remaining in Spey School. $550). The school will be held at the Douglaston Salmon Run on the lower Salmon River. There will also be half-day Spey casting classes on Sunday, August 10th to be held at various locations along the river.
As in past years, the main event occurs on Saturday, August 9th, starting around 8:30am at the Pineville Boat Launch in Pineville, NY. The Saturday event is open to-the-public (AND FREE) includes a variety of spey-related presentations throughout the morning and into the mid afternoon with topics curated to provide a full range of ideas and concepts.
Schedule of Saturday Presentations:
- 9:00am – Rick Kustich – Covering the Water
- 9:45am – Daniel Ritz – There’s One Rule: Simple Suggestions for Spey Casting
- Longer Lines
- 10:30am – Jeff Liskay – How to Manage Slack, Anchor and Control Force Throughout
- your Spey Casts
- 11:15 – Nick Pionessa – A Practical Approach to the Swing
- 12:00 – Lunch
- 1:00 – Garrett Brancy – The Douglaston Salmon Run
- 1:45 – Steve Szeliga – Bamboo Spey Rods and Dry Line Techniques
- 2:30 – Round Table / Q&A
The Saturday event also includes Spey Nation booth/table displays from Swing the Fly sponsors exhibiting some of the latest and greatest equipment in in the world of Spey. And as in the past there will be a free lunch provided and grilled by the kind efforts of Kathy and Dan Burnside.
New for 2025, at the end of the Saturday event, presenters and sponsors will be available to help with casting or to assist in providing advice on balancing a rod with the proper line or head. This is a great opportunity to get one on one input from industry experts that can help shorten the curve, eliminate wasteful spending on lines or heads and take your Spey game to the next level.
In the end the true strength of Spey Nation is the spirit of Spey anglers and casters coming together to socialize and share experiences while continuing to push the passion for the sport into the future. There is the opportunity to learn or to simply meet new friends that are cut of a similar cloth. I’m excited to see the continued evolution. If you live in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, or even parts of the Midwest, you are within a day’s drive of Spey Nation and we hope to see you at this year’s event!
